In the human gross anatomy course, the primary teaching and learning tool is the human cadaver. Often, the cadaver is introduced as the medical student’s fi rst patient. Because the cadaver was at one time a living, breathing human being, the cadaver was in fact a real patient at some point in time. For Anatomy & Physiology Revealed (APR) is an interactive human cadaver, fetal pig, or cat dissection tool to enhance lecture and lab that students can use anytime, anywhere. Instructors can customize APR by indicating the specific content required in their course through a simple menu selection process.

Students in the NIMA Anatomy Cadaver Lab course will have the opportunity to visit a certified cadaver lab and observe up-close the layers of the skin the muscle structures and tissues that support them as they watch the partial dissection of a cadaver. Cadaveric images are often accompanied by an orientation icon to help in the identification of the area on the cadaver from which the image was taken. The icons are positioned in such a way to show the same orientation of the cadaver when the photograph was taken. This atlas is based on the Visible Huma Da Vinci collaborated with Andreas Vesalius who also worked with many young artists to illustrate Vesalius’ book "De Humani Corporis Fabrica" and this launched the use of labelling anatomical features to better describe them. It is believed that Vesalius used cadavers of executed criminals in his work due to the inability to secure bodies for this type of work and dissection.
